Why size it by hand?

The sum changes on every trade.

Working out contracts in your head is fine until the market is moving. Three things make it easy to get wrong.

DISTANCE

Your stop is never the same

A 12 tick stop and a 30 tick stop need very different sizes for the same cash at risk.

TICK VALUE

Every contract pays differently

ES, MES, NQ and MNQ each have their own value per tick. Mix them up and the risk is out by a multiple.

PRESSURE

You do it when it matters most

The calculation happens seconds before entry, which is the worst moment for arithmetic.

Position sizing

Set the risk. The contracts follow.

Set the cash you are willing to lose with the plus and minus buttons, on the panel or on the bracket itself. Trade Assistant reads your stop distance and the instrument's tick value and gives you the size, every time, before you place anything.

Move the stop and the size updates with it. Your starting risk comes from the settings, and the panel shows what you stand to lose and to make, in cash and in ticks.

Worked example · MES
Cash at risk$200.00
Stop distance16 ticks
Tick value$1.25
Risk per contract$20.00

BRACKET

Lines you can drag

Entry, stop and target are lines on the MotiveWave chart. Drag them to shape the trade. What you see is what gets placed.

ENTRY

Protected from the first tick

Market, stop or limit. Every entry goes in with its stop and target attached, so you are never in a position without them.

LADDER

Scale in with one stop

Stack several limit orders for a better average. They share one stop and one target, which grow to cover the position as it fills.

Cross Trade

Analyse NQ. Execute MNQ. Sized for the one you trade.

Plenty of MotiveWave traders read the full-size contract and execute the micro. Trade Assistant follows that set-up: it reads your levels from the chart you analyse and sizes for the contract your orders go to.

No converting tick values between the two, and no order sent to the wrong instrument.

Worked example · chart NQ, orders to MNQ
Cash at risk$200.00
Stop on the NQ chart10 points (40 ticks)
MNQ tick value$0.50
Risk per MNQ contract$20.00
MNQ contracts10

MANAGE

Break-even, trail, partial close

Move the stop to break-even, switch on a trailing stop, or close half or three quarters of the position in a click.

PROTECT

Positions opened elsewhere

Opened a trade another way? One tap adds a stop and target to it, sized to the position you hold.

ACCOUNT

Your account, your click

It trades through whatever account MotiveWave is connected to, prop firm evaluations included. Nothing is placed unless you press the button.

Questions

Good to know.

How does it work alongside MotiveWave's own Trade Panel?

It sits on the chart next to it. Trade Assistant starts from the cash you are willing to lose, works out the quantity from your stop, and places the entry with its stop and target attached, all from one panel.

Does it work with MotiveWave Cross Trade?

Yes. Analyse one instrument and execute another, such as ES on the chart and MES on the account. The size is worked out for the contract you actually trade.

Which version of MotiveWave do I need?

Trade Assistant is built and tested on the current MotiveWave release, on Windows.

Will it work with my prop firm account?

It runs inside your platform and trades through whatever broker or prop firm account the platform is connected to, including evaluation accounts.

Does it place trades automatically?

No. Trade Assistant never places a trade on its own. It calculates, previews and submits the orders that you trigger with a click. You stay in control of every entry and exit.

What does it cost?

Terms start at £75 for three months, or pay £200 once for a lifetime licence. One licence covers two machines and every platform edition. The same key also runs the NinjaTrader 8 edition.
